Fall Porch Ideas

Happy Tuesday Everyone ~
With summer being a distant memory and Halloween behind us, I look forward to seeing fall here on the West Coast. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only weeks away.......

November is the time of year when with the oranges from October come together with the more warmer and familiar colors from autumn like golden yellows, soft burnished browns and plums. Your porch is that welcoming first step your guests see before they enter your front door. Having a welcome mat is fine, but it does not say WELCOME like a basket or two of golden yellow Mum's or a fall wreath hanging by your entry. How about a porch swing adorned with cozy pillows in plums and a place to put your feet up? Decorating your porch does not have to be an ordeal, but can be as simple as adding a wagon filled with left over Halloween pumpkins and gourds. I found seven wonderful ideas that may inspire you to add just a little or a lot of that fall feeling we are feeling in the air this month.

I love the three wreaths!
Have a hook and no plant? add a lantern and fill it with fall colors.

1 Chair + left over Halloween pumpkins + fall floral pics = Fall-Fabulous!
Punches of Orange from the Coast.
Relaxed and Inviting.
White wicker accented with a caramel throw and paisley cushions.

Empty urn on your front porch? Fill it with FALL color.
For those with a large porch. Swing, rocking chair and pillows. What more could you ask for?

Sea Treasures - Sea Glass

Sea Glass, Beach Glass or Mermaid Tears is created when glass items have been disposed of in the oceans by man or by sunken ships and vessels. Once it is in the ocean they are smoothed by the actions of the waves, sand and stone to create these lovely little pieces of sea glass gems. Sea glass washes up on nearly every beach on earth.  Sea glass has been a part of history since early civilization.  According to authors C.S. Lambert and Pat Hanbery, "Rich cargoes of ceramic and glass lie on the ocean's bottom, the result of shipwrecks, piracy and foul weather.  Doesn’t that make you envision Black Beard or Captain Jack Sparrow dumping there empty bottles of Rum overboard?
The color of sea glass is determined by its original source. Most sea glass comes from bottles, but it can also come from jars, plates, windows, ceramics or sea pottery ( "sea china" or "sea porcelain" or "beach pottery") see image below of a piece my husband Andrew collected while diving on a sunken World War II Japanese ship in the Pacific many years ago!

A few of my husband's finds

The most common colors of sea glass are kelly green; brown, blue and purple (clear). These colors come from bottles used by companies that sell beer, juices, and soft drinks.
So the next time you’re strolling along the beach don’t be surprised if you look down and there washed up on the beach is a Mermaids Tear.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY - "all gave some; some gave all,'"

There are only two words that describe the meaning of Memorial Day, THANK YOU!
God Bless all of our servicemen and women who are serving or have served in our military. And to those families who have lost loved ones, my deepest sympathy and gratitude for your loved one giving the ultimate sacrifice, their life,  for our freedom.
In the words of Ronald Reagan on May 25, 1981
Today, the United States stands as a beacon of liberty and democratic strength before the community of nations. We are resolved to stand firm against those who would destroy the freedoms we cherish. We are determined to achieve an enduring peace -- a peace with liberty and with honor. This determination, this resolve, is the highest tribute we can pay to the many who have fallen in the service of our Nation.
